How we test

Every review on Hunting AXS is built from three data streams: (1) hands-on range shooting, (2) hunt-week field use, (3) spec-sheet verification against manufacturer data. We do not review gear we have not put an arrow through, unless the page is a comparison or a guide, in which case we say so at the top.

Range testing

Each broadhead and arrow gets a minimum of 50 shots from a compound rig (Hoyt RX-7 at 70 lb draw, 29 in draw length, 460 grain arrow) at 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 yd. We record group size, wind drift, and spin-test rate out of the pack. We also document any blade failure (bent ferrule, broken blade, deployment failure).

Field use

We hunt with the gear we review. Broadheads log kills, wound channels, and blood trails. Arrows log season durability, insert loosening, and shaft damage. If we have not shot an animal with a piece of gear, we say “desk research only, no arrow to target yet” at the top of the page.

Spec verification

Every published spec (GPI, spine, straightness, cut diameter, blade thickness) is cross-checked against manufacturer spec sheets and, where possible, independent measurement. We call out spec drift (published .001 straightness that measures .003 in-hand) when we find it.

Editorial independence

We do not run affiliate programs currently. We do not accept manufacturer gear-for-review payments. We buy the gear we test at retail. See editorial independence and about the team.
