Bowhunting turkey
Turkey may be the hardest big-game bow shot in North America. The kill zone is smaller than a softball, buried in feathers, and moves the instant the bird spots draw. Kinetic energy is not the issue; placement is. The community argument runs between wide-cut mechanicals aimed at the body and specialty head-decapitating broadheads aimed at the neck.
Kinetic energy threshold
Turkey do not require heavy KE. Any bow-hunt legal draw weight (typically 40 lb minimum in state law) delivers more than enough energy on a 20 yd shot. The debate is broadhead style, not arrow speed.
Broadhead recommendation
Two schools. Body-shot camp: use a 2 in or wider mechanical (Rage Hypodermic, Magnus Bullhead if legal locally, Grim Reaper WhitetailSpecial) to cut vitals despite feather displacement. Head-shot camp: use a Magnus Bullhead, Gobbler Guillotine, or judo-point to decapitate at close range. Head-only heads have huge cut zones and drop the bird instantly if you hit.
Angle of fire and shot placement
Broadside standing bird: aim at the base of the wing where it meets the body, low. Strutting tom facing away: aim at the vent, straight up the spine. Facing you: aim at the beard base to break the wing bones. Head-only shot: aim at the base of the neck, not the head itself, so the wide cut catches the neck.
Arrow build
Standard deer arrow works. 400 to 480 gr, .003 straightness. Fletch large vanes (4 in or 3 in high-profile) for broadhead-flight stability on the wider mechanicals. A tethered decoy and a ground blind reduce draw movement, which is the single biggest miss cause.
What bowhunters actually say
Head shots are legal in most states and drop the bird DRT. Body shots with a normal broadhead let the bird fly off with your arrow.

I switched to a Magnus Bullhead after losing three body-shot birds in feathers. Have not lost one since.

A 2 in Rage from a ground blind at 15 yards on a broadside strutting tom is a death sentence. The wide cut cuts through the feathers.
