Best hunting arrows 2026
GPI, spine, straightness, and diameter are the four numbers that decide whether a hunt arrow flies straight, penetrates, and survives multiple seasons. Heavier GPI means higher FOC and better penetration on marginal hits. Tighter straightness (.001 vs .006) reduces flyers at 40+ yards, especially with a broadhead. Smaller diameter cheats wind. This hub compares ten hunt arrows the bowhunting community actually shoots, from budget Easton Sonic 6.0 to premium Victory VAP TKO Elite, on the specs that matter.

Straightness is +/- .002 (Match Grade +/- .001). .204 inner accepts a 5mm HIT insert 16 gr, or steps up to a 50+ gr brass insert for elk builds. USD 220 to 380 per dozen on Amazon depending on grade.
Best for: elk and big-game bowhunters wanting the heaviest carbon hunt shaft on the shelf.

Easton Axis 5mm
The default hunt arrow. 5mm class (.204 inner), .063 in wall thickness, GPI 11.5 (260 spine) down to 7.2 (700 spine). Straightness +/- .003 standard, +/- .001 Match Grade. Ships with 5mm HIT insert. Most-shot hunt arrow in North America for a reason: shaft survives seasons the other 5mm shafts do not. USD 130 to 200 per dozen on Amazon.
Best for: whitetail and elk bowhunters wanting the reference mid-price hunt shaft.

Easton Sonic 6.0
Value 6mm-class hunt shaft. .231 inner (6mm class), GPI 9.5 (250 spine) down to 5.8 (600 spine). Straightness +/- .003 standard, +/- .001 Match Grade. Ships factory-fletched with 2 in Blazer helical vanes. Not as heavy as the Axis 5mm, but the price gap is real. USD 90 to 160 per dozen on Amazon.
Best for: budget whitetail bowhunters wanting a proven Easton shaft in a fletched hunt pack.

Gold Tip Hunter XT
The most-shot hunt arrow in North America. 6.5mm class (.246 inner), GPI 10.6 (250 spine) down to 7.3 (500 spine). Straightness +/- .003. Ships with insert and nock included. Standard 6.5mm inserts fit any dealer shelf. Durable, cheap, and consistent. USD 100 to 130 per dozen on Amazon.
Best for: whitetail bowhunters wanting the most-common hunt shaft with universal insert availability.

Gold Tip Kinetic Kaos
Heavy-KE micro-diameter hunt shaft. .204 inner (5mm class), GPI 11.6 at 200 spine drives finished weights of 500 to 550 gr at compact draw lengths. Straightness +/- .0025. Ballistic Collar bundled from the factory means no add-on Iron Will collar purchase. Spines 200, 250, 300, 340, 400. USD 180 to 240 per dozen on Amazon.
Best for: compact-draw-length bowhunters wanting heavy KE and integrated collar without add-on parts.

Victory VAP TKO Elite
Premium micro-diameter hunt shaft. .166 in inner (true micro), the smallest diameter you can practically build a hunt arrow around. GPI 13.1 at 300 spine, down to 8.0 at 400. Straightness +/- .001 stock. Wind drift at 60 yd is the payoff for the small-diameter tune. Spines 300, 350, 400 (plus 175, 500 specialty). USD 220 to 300 per dozen on Amazon.
Best for: long-range Western hunters shooting past 50 yd with high wind exposure.

Victory RIP XV
Victory’s answer to the Easton Axis 5mm. .204 inner (5mm class), +/- .001 straightness stock, weight-sorted per dozen, nanoceramic coating pulls out of stacked-target foam cleanly. GPI 9.3 (200 spine) to 5.1 (500 spine). Ships with 21 gr RIP SHOK aluminium insert. Lighter than Axis 5mm so tunes for speed. USD 230 to 320 per dozen on Amazon.
Best for: high-speed whitetail bowhunters wanting +/- .001 straightness with an integrated collar-and-insert.

Black Eagle Rampage
Small-manufacturer 5mm-class shaft with big-manufacturer component quality. .204 inner, GPI 12.8 (200 spine) to 7.0 (400 spine). Ships with stainless half-out and collar bundled. Straightness sold as +/- .001 or +/- .003 lot; the .001 lot costs less than an Easton Match Grade Axis. Spines 200, 250, 300, 350, 400. USD 130 to 230 per dozen on Amazon.
Best for: elk-country hunters wanting +/- .001 straightness and stainless half-out at Axis-standard-grade prices.

Black Eagle Spartan
Heavy weight-forward hunt shaft. .224 inner (5.7mm class), thick wall, built to eat 100+ gr up front without a specialty insert order. Straightness sold in +/- .001 or +/- .003 lot. Spines 200 through 500. Stainless components stock. A Rampage that got serious about weight-forward FOC. USD 170 to 280 per dozen on Amazon.
Best for: Ranch Fairy-style heavy-shaft weight-forward elk and bear bowhunters.

Carbon Express Maxima Sable RZ
Quiet 6mm-class hunt shaft. .244 inner, TriSpine geometry (three-stage stiffness along the shaft) for quieter flight than the Maxima Red it replaces. GPI 8.4 (350 spine) down to 6.5 (500 spine). Straightness +/- .002 max (not average). LaunchPad Precision Nock. Spines 350, 400, 500. USD 150 to 200 per dozen fletched on Amazon.
Best for: stand hunters wanting the quietest arrow flight at a moderate price.
How to pick the right one
Match spine to draw weight and draw length
A 65 lb bow at 28 in draw shoots a 340 spine for most shooters. Drop to 300 spine if you are 70 lb or over, or if you run a heavy 125 gr broadhead with a 50+ gr brass insert. Move to 400 spine if you are 55 lb or under, or if you cut arrows very short. Every manufacturer publishes a spine chart; use the one for the shaft you are buying, not a generic chart.
GPI and momentum: elk vs whitetail
Whitetail at 20 to 40 yards needs 400 to 450 grains finished. Elk, moose, hogs, and bear at any range benefit from 470 to 520 grains with 14+ percent FOC. Higher GPI shafts (Axis 5mm 9.5, FMJ 5mm 11.3, Spartan 9.0, KAOS 200 spine 11.6) get you there without a specialty 250 spine order. Lighter shafts (Sonic 6.0, RIP XV, Sable RZ) chase speed and flat trajectory instead.
Straightness and the cost curve
The straightness curve is not linear. .006 to .003 is a real accuracy jump; .003 to .001 is measurable only past 50 yards with a broadhead. Rampage sells both lots ( .001 and .003); Axis Match Grade upgrades to .001; VAP TKO Elite and RIP XV come .001 stock. If you shoot inside 45 yards, .003 is enough. Past that, pay for .001.
Common builds
Whitetail speed build: 340 spine, standard insert, 100 gr broadhead, 400 to 430 grains finished. Sonic 6.0, Hunter XT, Sable RZ, RIP XV are the natural fits.
Elk / big game build: 300 or 340 spine, 50 gr brass insert, 125 gr broadhead, 470 to 500 grains at 14+ percent FOC. Axis 5mm, Rampage, RIP XV 250 are the natural fits.
Heavy KE / weight-forward build: 250 or 300 spine, 100 gr stainless insert, 125 gr broadhead, 500 to 550 grains at 17+ percent FOC. FMJ 5mm, Spartan, KAOS are the natural fits.
