Muzzy Trocar Review

Muzzy Trocar review

The Muzzy Trocar HB (Hybrid Bleeder) is a fixed three-blade with a steel Trocar tip, a stainless aluminum ferrule, and swappable .035 in blades. It has been the value benchmark for a fixed head that spin-tests true out of the box since 2013. 1-3/16 in cut, 100 gr.

Build and geometry

Steel Trocar tip (three-edge cut-on-contact), machined aluminium ferrule with steel insert, three .035 in stainless blades. Total length is 1-3/8 in. 100 gr. The HB version adds an internal bleeder blade set that opens on the shaft strike. Standard Trocar is the base three-blade, no bleeder.

Flight and tuning

Trocar tip forgives a lot of tune, and the 3-blade profile flies close to a field point on a paper-tuned rig. Bareshaft-tune the rig, install the Trocar, expect a group within 6 in of the field-point group at 40 yd on the first pass. Broadhead-tune to match. Wind drift is average.

Best for

Best for: whitetail and mule deer bowhunters on a budget, on any compound draw weight from 55 lb up.

Shortcomings

Aluminium ferrule bends on shoulder-bone hits. .035 in blades are thinner than the Slick Trick (.035 in but with a four-blade backup) or Iron Will (.062 in). Trocar tip can chip on rock. Not durable for repeated target shooting.
